Shakshuka Poached Eggs in Tomatoes

Shakshuka is a dish of eggs fried in a vegetable sauce with spices. Homeland of Shakshuka is Tunisia, now this dish is part of the cuisine of Israel, Azerbaijan and many Arab countries. Traditionally it is served for breakfast with bread, lavash or pita. For preparation of classical Shakshuka necessarily use ground zircon, it gives a dish a special taste and aroma.

Steps

  • 1. Peel the onions from the husks and cut them into cubes. Finely chop purified cloves of garlic.
  • 2. Heat up a few tablespoons of olive oil on a frying pan. Transfer the chopped onions and garlic into the frying pan. Stirring, pass them to a golden hue.
  • 3. Peel the skin from tomatoes, making a cross-cut on them and dipping them for a minute in a steep boiling water. Cut peeled tomatoes and red bell pepper into a cube.
  • 4. When the onion with garlic are browned, add the remaining vegetables to them.

  • 5. Next, add tomato sauce to the mixture (you can use ketchup).
  • 6. Salt the resulting mixture of vegetables to taste and season with spices.
  • 7. Stirring the vegetables thoroughly, simmer them on a slow fire for 7-10 minutes. During this time, they will become soft and soaked with the aromas of each other.
  • 8. Now make grooves in the vegetable mix with the help of a wooden spatula for the number of chicken eggs that are used for the recipe. In each cavity, gently brake one egg.

  • 9. Cover the frying pan with a lid, continue cooking the Shakshuka on low heat, so that the chicken proteins are fully prepared, and the yolks inside remain liquid. Decorate the ready dish with fresh parsley and serve immediately until the fried eggs have cooled.
