Puff Pastry Cheese Straws

Crumping puffs with hot cheese stuffing will become excellent addition to fragrant chicken broth or light salad from fresh vegetables. It’s convenient to take such snack puffs with you on nature or in a trip as a snack. Besides the hard cheese as a stuffing for the puffs can be fresh greenery, coarse sea salt and dried herbs, red fish, ham or slices of meat products. Ingredients

  • Yeast puff dough
    500 g
  • Cheese
    200 g
  • Tomato sauce
    4 tbsp
  • Whole wheat flour
    2 tbsp
  • Vegetable oil
    2 tbsp
  • Salt
    - to taste
  • Green onion
    - to taste

Steps

  • 1. In advance take the puff yeast dough from the fridge, so that it defreeze and become elastic. Let’s divide dough into halves for more convenience. On working surface covered with wheat flour let’s roll one part of the dough in a square layer 3-4 mm thick.
  • 2. Spread hot tomato sauce on one half of preparation.
  • 3. Cut hard cheese on thin slices. Put the slices of cheese on the top of tomato sauce. To taste it is possible to add a little black ground pepper or salt if cheese isn’t salty enough.
  • 4. Cover hard cheese with the second half of puff pastry.
  • 5. With the help of sharp knife cut the preparation on long strips 1.5-2 cm wide.
  • 6. Turn each strip of dough on the edge, accurately roll it in a wave shape and string on a wooden skewer. In such way let’s form all puffs. Lay them out on the baking sheet covered with baking paper and greased with oil at some distance from each other.
  • 7. Send snack puffs to the oven warmed up to 180 degrees. Let's bake them at the middle level for 20 minutes to an appetizing golden shade.
  • 8. Slightly cool snack puffs and serve them with beer, tea or tomato juice.
  • 9. Bon Appetite!
