Russian Fish Pie

The fish pie is just a yeast pie, but the filling is the main "highlight" of pastry. In the filling you put a whole carcass, of course, small-bones fish, for example, mackerel. The traditional and very beautiful dish will be a great decoration of your festive table - family members will be 100% surprised.

Steps

  • 1. In the evening before the preparation take out the fish to unfreeze. Before starting work peel the onion and rinse the greenery. Cut off the fish's head, fins and tail. Carefully clean from the insides and wash everything thoroughly.
  • 2. Add to the sieved flour dry yeast, sugar and salt. Let’s mix everything very actively.
  • 3. Pour warm milk into the obtained mixture and break one egg.
  • 4. Knead the soft dough with active movements of hands, in the process adding a little oil. The consistence should be within an inch of sticking to fingers. Leave the dough for rising in a warm place for 60 minutes.

  • 5. During these 60 minutes let’s prepare greenery and onion (of course, it will not take much time). Cut the onion into semi-rings and ground finely parsley and green onion.
  • 6. Check the dough - it should increase significantly.
  • 7. Roll the ready gentle dough in the form of oval to the size of fish taking into account the edges for decoration. On the middle let’s put all greenery and onion semi-rings.
  • 8. On top put a carcass of mackerel.

  • 9. Cut the dough around the fish into stripes, as in the photo.
  • 10. And begin to braid stripes over the fish carcass.
  • 11. After forming the preparation of the future fish pie, leave it for 10-12 minutes to rise. Then it is possible to grease the surface of the future pie with a mixture of yolks and water - it is made for an appetite golden crust - and it is possible to overstrew the pie with sesame seeds on top.
  • 12. Bake for 30-35 minutes (temperature 190 degrees). You can check the readiness by perfect golden surface of the finished fish pie.
