Brussels Sprout with Bacon

To cook extraordinary dish you can avoid using vast quantity of products. Let’s cook brussel sprout fried with bacon in savoury balsamic and maple syrup gravy. In as little as half an hour you’ll get a dish slightly smelling smoke and tasting sweet and salty at the same time. It’s served in Canada and the USA for Thanksgiving Day or any other holiday as a garnish or separate dish to be cooked right before serving.

Ingredients

  • Brussels sprout
    500 g
  • Bacon
    80 g
  • Balsamic vinegar
    1 tbsp
  • Maple syrup
    1 tbsp
  • Salt
    - to taste
  • Black pepper
    - to taste


Sauteed Brussels Sprouts


Steps

  • 1. Remove external yellow leaves from brussel sprout, cut each cabbage - head in half and remove stalks.
  • 2. Pre-heat frying pan without oil over medium heat and fry slices of bacon both sides until golden brown.
  • 3. Drain bacon with paper napkins to take extra oil away.
  • 4. Remove oil after frying bacon leaving about 1-2 tbsp in the frying pan to cook cabbage. Put the frying pan back on the heat, spread brussel sprouts over and cook until golden brown too stirring from time to time.
  • 5. Lower the heat, add balsamic vinegar to brussel sprouts, mix all ingredients and sweat for a few minutes until soft and ready. Cut bacon randomly and add to brussel sprouts as well as maple syrup. Mix thoroughly to make icing cover all pieces of the dish. Season with salt and black pepper mignonette to taste.
  • 6. Put fried brussel sprout with bacon on the dish and serve it to the table having sprinkled it with fresh herbs.
