Batata cut into strips, rolled in flavory spices and baked in the oven can be an excellent alternative to popular french fries. The most difficult thing is to find batata which is still rare one even in the biggest hypermarkets.

  • Dried garlic
    1 tsp
  • Sweet pepper
    1 tsp
  • Black pepper
    ½ tsp
  • Potato starch
    3 tbsp
  • Thyme
    - to taste
  • Salt
    - to taste
  • Flax seed oil
    3 tbsp

Steps

  • 1. Amount of spices and salt is to your own taste.Quantity of batatas depends on the size of tubers. Here, big tubers were used. Peel batatas and cut into strips. Soak cut batatas in cold water for 30 minutes to make it crispy when cooked. Prepare baking sheet covered with baking paper and pre -heat the oven to 200-205°C
  • 2. Then put batata stripes into a bowl and add seed oil, spices, salt, starch and thyme sprigs. Mix everything with your hands to make stripes covered with oil, spices and starch.
  • 3. Put batata stripes side by side on the baking sheet and get it into the oven for 15-20 minutes. Then turn each strip over and put in the oven for another 15-20 minutes. Total baking time depends on a particular oven. Make sure your spices don’t burn, otherwise it can be bitter. Serve your dish the moment it’s ready due to cooled batata will lose its crispy feature.
  • 4. Baked batata can be eaten with or without any sauce. Also it’s a perfect garnish to any meat dish.
