Ingredients & Costing:

  • 2 tsp Oil - 1 peso
  • 3 to 4 cloves Garlic - 3 pesos
  • 1 medium sized red onion - 3 pesos
  • 3-4pcs siling labuyo - 3 pesos
  • 1 siling pang sigang | green Chili - 1 peso
  • 1/2 cup Soy sauce - 2.5 pesos
  • 1 1/2 cup Brown Sugar - 14.4 pesos
  • 3 cups water - 94 centavos
  • 1/8 cup All purpose flour - 67 centavos
  • 1/8 cup Cornstarch - 76 centavos
  • 1/8 cup vinegar - 83 centavos

Sweet Chili Sauce

  • 1/3 cup Vinegar - 1.6 pesos
  • 5-6 pcs Siling Labuyo - 6 pesos
  • 3 cloves garlic - 3 pesos
  • 1 cup white sugar - 9.6 pesos
  • 1 1/3 cup water - 42 centavos
  • 1/8 cup cassava starch - 76 centavos
  • 1 tsp annatto powder (optional) - 2.5 pesos

Cucumber Vinegar

  • 2 cups White Vinegar - 10 pesos
  • 1 cup Whiite Sugar - 9.6 pesos
  • 3 cloves minced garlic - 3 pesos
  • 1/4 cup patis or fish sauce - 1.66 pesos
  • 1 tbsp iodized salt - 1 peso
  • 5-6 pcs siling labuyo - 6 pesos
  • Black pepper crushed - 20 centavos
  • 1 pc red onion - 3 pesos
  • 1/3 of cucumber - 2.6 pesos

Kwek kwek is a popular street food in the Philippines made of boiled quail eggs that are coated with orange batter and deep-fried until crispy. Here's a simple recipe for the spicy and tangy kwek kwek sauce that you can use as a dip:

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup vinegar
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp sriracha sauce (or any hot sauce of your choice)
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup water

Instructions:

  1. In a small saucepan, combine the vinegar, ketchup, brown sugar, soy sauce, and sriracha sauce. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk the cornstarch and water until well combined.
  3. Once the sauce has boiled, reduce the heat to low and add the cornstarch mixture to the saucepan. Stir continuously until the sauce thickens.
  4. Remove the saucepan from heat and let the kwek kwek sauce cool down.
  5. Once cooled, transfer the sauce to a small bowl or container and serve with the kwek kwek.

You can adjust the amount of sriracha sauce based on your desired level of spiciness. Enjoy your kwek kwek with this delicious sauce!
