With a flaky pie crust, gooey, buttery, and a sweet filling, and minimal ingredients β€” Southern chess pie is an American treat! It’s a unique dessert option that will have the entire table begging for the recipe!

Ingredients

β€’ 1 unbaked pie crust
β€’ 1/2 cup salted butter , melted
β€’ 1 1/2 cups sugar
β€’ 4 eggs large eggs
β€’ 3 tbsp cornmeal
β€’ 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
β€’ 1/4 cup milk
β€’ 2 tbsp lemon juice
β€’ 1 tsp vanilla extract
β€’ 1/2 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Roll pie crust into a standard 9 inch pie dish and freeze until the filling mixture is ready.
  3. In a large bowl, mix together the melted butter and sugar and whisk to combine. Whisk in the eggs, then the cornmeal and flour. Add the milk, lemon juice, vanilla extract and salt and mix to combine.
  4. Carefully pour the filling into the crust. Bake for 45-50 minutes, until the edges and center of pie are set completely.
