I am so glad I can share with you this flavorful German Apple Streusel Cake - Apfelkuchen mit Streusel. I have tried many apple recipes and I can assure you, this is one of the best apple cakes I have ever made. It is so comforting, a perfect dessert for cozy fall days.

Ingredients

Makes about 10 servings

Cake Crust

  • 1/4 cup + 3 tbsp (95g) butter, room temperature
  • 1/3 cup (70g) sugar
  • 1 tsp (5g) vanilla extract
  • 1 medium egg
  • 1 ½ cup (190g) all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 tsp (4g) baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp (1g) salt

Apple Filling

  • 4-5 apples (about 25 oz -700g)
  • 1 tbsp (15ml) lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp (2g) cinnamon

Streusel Almond Topping

  • 2/3 cup (80g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup (50g) brown sugar
  • 1/4 tsp (1g) salt
  • 1/2 tsp (2g) ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup (56g) butter, room temperature
  • 1/3 cup (30g) flaked almonds

For Topping

  • powdered sugar
