Siomai Java Rice

Siomai Java Rice

Siomai Java Rice is a delightful Filipino dish that combines the flavors of siomai (steamed dumplings) with java rice (a garlic-flavored fried rice).

Siomai Java Rice

Siomai Ingredients:

  • Siomai (pork or shrimp, homemade or store-bought)

Java Rice Ingredients:

  • Cooked white rice (preferably day-old rice)
  • Garlic (3-4 cloves, minced)
  • Soy sauce (1-2 tablespoons)
  • Cooking oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Spring onions (optional, for garnish)

Instructions:

1. Prepare Siomai:

  • If using store-bought siomai, follow the cooking instructions on the package. If preparing homemade siomai, steam or pan-fry them until cooked through.

2. Make Java Rice:

  • Heat a pan or skillet over medium heat and add a bit of cooking oil.
  • Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant and lightly golden.
  • Add the cooked white rice to the pan, breaking up any clumps. Stir-fry the rice with the garlic, ensuring it's well coated.
  • Drizzle soy sauce over the rice for color and flavor. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Continue stir-frying until the rice is heated through and takes on the flavors of garlic and soy sauce.

3. Serve Siomai Java Rice:

  • Plate the Java Rice and arrange the cooked siomai on top or on the side.
  • Garnish with chopped spring onions for added freshness and color, if desired.

4. Optional Sauces:

  • Serve with dipping sauces like soy sauce with calamansi, chili garlic sauce, or a mixture of soy sauce and vinegar, according to your preference.

Enjoy your Siomai Java Rice! The combination of flavorful siomai with garlicky java rice creates a delicious and satisfying meal, popular in Filipino cuisine. Adjust the seasonings and garnishes to suit your taste.
