Christmas cookies

I'd like to add these cookies to my wishlist.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Optional Add-ins:

  • 1 cup chocolate chips, chopped nuts, or dried fruit (e.g., cranberries)

For Decorating:

  • Icing sugar
  • Food coloring
  • Sprinkles

Instructions:

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C).
  2. Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add Egg and Vanilla: Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Mix Wet and Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a soft dough forms. If you're using any optional add-ins, fold them into the dough at this point.
  6. Roll and Cut: Divide the dough into two portions. On a floured surface, roll out each portion to about 1/4 inch thickness. Use cookie cutters to cut out shapes.
  7. Bake: Place the cut-out cookies on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden.
  8. Cool: Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. Decorate: Once the cookies are completely cool, you can decorate them with icing sugar, food coloring, and sprinkles.
  10. Enjoy: Let the icing set, and then enjoy your delicious Christmas cookies!

Feel free to get creative with the shapes and decorations. You can also make a simple glaze by mixing icing sugar with a little milk or water for a glossy finish. Happy baking!
