Fried rice
Fried rice is a versatile and delicious dish that can be made using leftover rice and various ingredients. Here's a basic recipe for making fried rice:
Ingredients:
- 3 cups cooked rice (preferably chilled or day-old rice)
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 cup diced vegetables (such as carrots, peas, bell peppers, corn, or green beans)
- 1/2 cup diced onion
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 eggs, lightly beaten
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: cooked meat (such as diced chicken, shrimp, or ham)
Instructions:
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium heat.
- Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the pan and cook until they become fragrant and slightly softened.
- If using raw meat, add it to the pan and cook until it's cooked through. If using cooked meat, you can add it later in the process.
- Add the diced vegetables to the pan and stir-fry for a few minutes until they are slightly tender.
- Push the vegetables to one side of the pan and pour the beaten eggs into the empty side. Scramble the eggs until they are cooked.
- Add the chilled or day-old cooked rice to the pan and break up any clumps with a spatula. Stir-fry the rice together with the vegetables and eggs.
- If you're using cooked meat, add it to the pan at this point and stir-fry for another minute to heat it through.
- Drizzle the soy sauce and oyster sauce (if using) over the rice. Stir-fry everything together, ensuring that the sauce is evenly distributed.
- Taste the fried rice and season with salt and pepper as desired. Adjust the amount of soy sauce or oyster sauce to suit your taste.
- Continue stir-frying the fried rice for a few more minutes until everything is heated through and well combined.
- Once the fried rice is cooked, remove it from the heat and serve it hot. You can garnish it with chopped green onions or cilantro if desired.
