Texas Sheet Cake is a classic American dessert known for its rich chocolate flavor and moist, tender texture. It's typically baked in a large, shallow sheet pan and topped with a decadent chocolate frosting. Here's a recipe to guide you in making a delicious Texas Sheet Cake:

Ingredients:

For the cake:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the frosting:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chopped pecans (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a large 18x13-inch sheet pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a medium saucepan, combine the butter, water, and cocoa powder. Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring constantly, and then remove it from the heat.
  4. Pour the hot cocoa mixture over the dry ingredients and whisk until well combined.
  5. Add the buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla extract to the batter. Mix until smooth and thoroughly incorporated.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared sheet pan and spread it evenly.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
  8. While the cake is baking, prepare the frosting. In a medium saucepan, combine the butter, milk, and cocoa powder. Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring constantly.
  9. Remove the saucepan from the heat and gradually whisk in the powdered sugar and vanilla extract until smooth.
  10. If desired, stir in the chopped pecans into the frosting. The nuts add a delicious crunch and flavor, but they are optional.
  11. As soon as the cake is done baking, remove it from the oven and pour the warm frosting over the hot cake. Spread the frosting evenly using a spatula.
  12. Allow the cake to cool completely and for the frosting to set before slicing and serving.

Serve the Texas Sheet Cake at room temperature and enjoy its rich, chocolaty goodness. It's a crowd-pleasing dessert that's perfect for parties, potlucks, or any occasion where you want to satisfy your sweet tooth!
