Mille Feuille Basket
A Mille-Feuille Basket is a delightful and elegant dessert made with layers of crispy puff pastry and a luscious filling, typically pastry cream or whipped cream, topped with a sweet glaze or powdered sugar. Here's a general recipe to guide you in making a Mille-Feuille Basket:
Ingredients:
- Puff pastry sheets (store-bought or homemade)
- Pastry cream or whipped cream filling
- Sweet glaze or powdered sugar for topping (optional)
- Fresh fruits or berries for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven according to the instructions on the puff pastry package or to 180°C (350°F) if using homemade puff pastry.
- Roll out the puff pastry sheets on a floured surface to a thickness of about 1/4 inch.
- Cut the rolled-out pastry sheets into rectangular strips of equal width, about 2-3 inches wide.
- Take one pastry strip and place it on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush it with a little water or egg wash.
- Place another pastry strip on top and press gently to stick them together. Repeat with additional strips until you have a stack of 4-5 layers.
- Using a sharp knife, cut the layered pastry into smaller rectangles or squares to form the individual mille-feuille baskets.
- Bake the pastry baskets in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes or until they turn golden brown and puffed up. Keep an eye on them as baking times may vary.
- Once the pastry baskets are baked, remove them from the oven and let them cool completely.
- Prepare your pastry cream or whipped cream filling. If using pastry cream, you can make it from scratch or use a store-bought version. If using whipped cream, whip it until it reaches a stiff peak consistency.
- Fill a piping bag fitted with a star tip with the pastry cream or whipped cream.
- Carefully pipe the filling into the center of each pastry basket, creating beautiful swirls or layers.
- If desired, prepare a sweet glaze by mixing powdered sugar with a small amount of water or use powdered sugar to dust the tops of the mille-feuille baskets.
- Decorate the tops of the baskets with fresh fruits or berries for an extra touch of color and flavor.
- Serve the Mille-Feuille Baskets immediately or refrigerate for a short time to allow the filling to set.
- Enjoy the delicate and delicious Mille-Feuille Baskets as a stunning dessert!
You can get creative with variations by adding flavored creams, such as vanilla, chocolate, or fruit-flavored creams, or by layering the pastry with fruit preserves or caramel. The Mille-Feuille Basket offers a beautiful presentation and a delightful combination of textures and flavors.
