  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 ounces semi-sweet chocolate, finely chopped
  • Whipped cream or chocolate shavings for garnish (optional)

  1. In a medium saucepan, whisk together the sugar, cocoa powder, cornstarch, and salt until well combined.
  2. Gradually pour in the milk, whisking constantly to prevent any lumps from forming.
  3. Place the saucepan over medium heat and cook the mixture, stirring continuously, until it thickens and comes to a gentle boil. This should take about 8-10 minutes.
  4. Once the mixture reaches a boil, reduce the heat to low and continue to cook for an additional 2 minutes, stirring constantly.
  5. Remove the saucepan from the heat and add the vanilla extract and chopped chocolate. Stir until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is smooth and creamy.
  6. Pour the pudding into individual serving dishes or a large bowl.
  7. To prevent a skin from forming, place a piece of plastic wrap directly on the surface of the pudding.
  8. Allow the pudding to cool to room temperature, and then refrigerate for at least 2 hours or until chilled and set.
  9. Before serving, you can garnish the pudding with whipped cream or chocolate shavings, if desired.
