Cheese Naan Tandoori Roti on Tawa
Cheese Naan and Tandoori Roti are both delicious Indian bread varieties that can be enjoyed with curries, kebabs, or as standalone dishes. Here's a recipe for Cheese Naan and Tandoori Roti:
Cheese Naan
Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup plain yogurt
- 1/4 cup milk
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- Grated cheese (such as mozzarella or cheddar)
- Chopped cilantro (coriander) leaves for garnish
- Butter or ghee for brushing
Instructions:
- In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add the yogurt, milk, and melted butter to the dry ingredients. Mix well to form a soft dough.
- Knead the dough for a few minutes until smooth and elastic. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 30 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to the highest temperature setting or use a tandoor if available. If using an oven, preheat it with a pizza stone or baking sheet inside.
- Divide the dough into equal-sized balls. Roll out each ball into a circular shape, approximately 1/4 inch thick.
- Sprinkle grated cheese on one side of the rolled-out dough. Fold the dough over to cover the cheese and seal the edges.
- Gently roll out the stuffed dough again to a slightly larger size, taking care not to let the cheese come out.
- Place the rolled cheese naan on the preheated pizza stone or baking sheet in the oven.
- Bake for about 2-3 minutes until the naan puffs up and the top starts to brown.
- Remove the naan from the oven and brush with butter or ghee. Garnish with chopped cilantro leaves. Repeat the process for the remaining dough balls.
- Serve the Cheese Naan hot with your favorite curry or as a standalone bread.
Tandoori Roti

- Butter or ghee for brushing
Instructions:
- In a mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour and salt.

- Divide the dough into equal-sized balls.
- Roll out each ball into a circular shape, approximately 1/4 inch thick.
- Preheat a tawa or griddle over medium-high heat.
- Place the rolled roti on the hot tawa and cook for about a minute until bubbles start to form on the surface.
- Flip the roti and cook the other side for another minute until brown spots appear.
- Remove the roti from the tawa and place it directly over an open flame or on a wire rack to puff up. Be cautious when handling the hot roti.
- Brush the cooked roti with butter or ghee.
- Repeat the process for the remaining dough balls.
