Cheese Naan and Tandoori Roti are both delicious Indian bread varieties that can be enjoyed with curries, kebabs, or as standalone dishes. Here's a recipe for Cheese Naan and Tandoori Roti:

Cheese Naan

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup plain yogurt
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • Grated cheese (such as mozzarella or cheddar)
  • Chopped cilantro (coriander) leaves for garnish
  • Butter or ghee for brushing

Instructions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  2. Add the yogurt, milk, and melted butter to the dry ingredients. Mix well to form a soft dough.
  3. Knead the dough for a few minutes until smooth and elastic. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 30 minutes.
  4. Preheat your oven to the highest temperature setting or use a tandoor if available. If using an oven, preheat it with a pizza stone or baking sheet inside.
  5. Divide the dough into equal-sized balls. Roll out each ball into a circular shape, approximately 1/4 inch thick.
  6. Sprinkle grated cheese on one side of the rolled-out dough. Fold the dough over to cover the cheese and seal the edges.
  7. Gently roll out the stuffed dough again to a slightly larger size, taking care not to let the cheese come out.
  8. Place the rolled cheese naan on the preheated pizza stone or baking sheet in the oven.
  9. Bake for about 2-3 minutes until the naan puffs up and the top starts to brown.
  10. Remove the naan from the oven and brush with butter or ghee. Garnish with chopped cilantro leaves. Repeat the process for the remaining dough balls.
  11. Serve the Cheese Naan hot with your favorite curry or as a standalone bread.

Tandoori Roti

Instructions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour and salt.
  2. Gradually add warm water and knead the dough until it becomes smooth and pliable.
  3. Divide the dough into equal-sized balls.
  4. Roll out each ball into a circular shape, approximately 1/4 inch thick.
  5. Preheat a tawa or griddle over medium-high heat.
  6. Place the rolled roti on the hot tawa and cook for about a minute until bubbles start to form on the surface.
  7. Flip the roti and cook the other side for another minute until brown spots appear.
  8. Remove the roti from the tawa and place it directly over an open flame or on a wire rack to puff up. Be cautious when handling the hot roti.
  9. Brush the cooked roti with butter or ghee.
