Crispy, chewy, delicious: Cantonese fish tofu

Cantonese Fish Tofu is a popular and tasty dish that is easy to make at home. Here's a recipe to make it:

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound firm tofu, drained and cut into cubes
  • 1 pound white fish fillet (such as cod or tilapia), cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 red bell pepper, seeded and chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, seeded and chopped
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Sliced scallions, for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat.
  2. Add the garlic, onion, red and green bell peppers, and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes or until the vegetables are slightly softened.
  3. Add the tofu and fish to the skillet or wok and stir-fry for another 2-3 minutes or until the fish is lightly browned.
  4. In a small mixing bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, water, and cornstarch until well combined.
  5. Pour the sauce mixture into the skillet or wok and stir gently to coat the tofu and fish with the sauce.
  6. Season with salt and pepper, to taste.
  7. Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer the mixture for about 5-7 minutes or until the sauce has thickened and the fish is fully cooked.
  8. Remove the skillet or wok from the heat and let it cool for a few minutes.
  9. Serve the Cantonese Fish Tofu hot, garnished with sliced scallions, over steamed rice or noodles.
