Crispy, chewy, delicious: Cantonese fish tofu
Cantonese Fish Tofu is a popular and tasty dish that is easy to make at home. Here's a recipe to make it:
Ingredients:
- 1 pound firm tofu, drained and cut into cubes
- 1 pound white fish fillet (such as cod or tilapia), cut into bite-sized pieces
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 1 red bell pepper, seeded and chopped
- 1 green bell pepper, seeded and chopped
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 teaspoons cornstarch
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Sliced scallions, for garnish
Instructions:
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat.
- Add the garlic, onion, red and green bell peppers, and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes or until the vegetables are slightly softened.
- Add the tofu and fish to the skillet or wok and stir-fry for another 2-3 minutes or until the fish is lightly browned.
- In a small mixing bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, water, and cornstarch until well combined.
- Pour the sauce mixture into the skillet or wok and stir gently to coat the tofu and fish with the sauce.
- Season with salt and pepper, to taste.
- Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer the mixture for about 5-7 minutes or until the sauce has thickened and the fish is fully cooked.
- Remove the skillet or wok from the heat and let it cool for a few minutes.
- Serve the Cantonese Fish Tofu hot, garnished with sliced scallions, over steamed rice or noodles.
