Mutton Seekh Kebab

Mutton Seekh Kebab is a delicious and popular Indian appetizer or snack. Here's a recipe to make it at home:

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb. ground mutton
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 inch piece of ginger, grated
  • 1 green chili pepper, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup fresh cilantro leaves, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 10-12 wooden skewers, soaked in water for 30 minutes

Instructions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground mutton, chopped onion, minced garlic, grated ginger, chopped green chili pepper, and chopped cilantro leaves.
  2. Add the coriander powder, cumin powder, garam masala powder, red chili powder, turmeric powder, and salt to the bowl and mix well.
  3. Add the lemon juice and beaten egg to the bowl and mix until everything is well combined.
  4. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate the mixture for at least 30 minutes (or up to 2 hours) to allow the flavors to meld together.
  5. Preheat your grill or oven to 375°F (190°C).
  6. Divide the mutton mixture into 10-12 equal portions.
  7. Take one portion and form it around a wooden skewer, pressing the meat firmly onto the skewer to create a sausage shape.
  8. Repeat with the remaining portions and skewers.
  9. Grill the skewers over medium heat for about 8-10 minutes on each side, or until the kebabs are cooked through and browned.
  10. Alternatively, you can bake the kebabs in the oven for 20-25 minutes, turning them halfway through the cooking time.
  11. Once the kebabs are cooked, remove them from the grill or oven and let them rest for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy with mint chutney or a squeeze of lemon juice.
