Mutton Seekh Kebab
Mutton Seekh Kebab is a delicious and popular Indian appetizer or snack. Here's a recipe to make it at home:
Ingredients:
- 1 lb. ground mutton
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 inch piece of ginger, grated
- 1 green chili pepper, finely chopped
- 1/2 cup fresh cilantro leaves, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon coriander powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin powder
- 1 teaspoon garam masala powder
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
- 10-12 wooden skewers, soaked in water for 30 minutes
Instructions:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground mutton, chopped onion, minced garlic, grated ginger, chopped green chili pepper, and chopped cilantro leaves.
- Add the coriander powder, cumin powder, garam masala powder, red chili powder, turmeric powder, and salt to the bowl and mix well.
- Add the lemon juice and beaten egg to the bowl and mix until everything is well combined.
- Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate the mixture for at least 30 minutes (or up to 2 hours) to allow the flavors to meld together.
- Preheat your grill or oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Divide the mutton mixture into 10-12 equal portions.
- Take one portion and form it around a wooden skewer, pressing the meat firmly onto the skewer to create a sausage shape.
- Repeat with the remaining portions and skewers.
- Grill the skewers over medium heat for about 8-10 minutes on each side, or until the kebabs are cooked through and browned.
- Alternatively, you can bake the kebabs in the oven for 20-25 minutes, turning them halfway through the cooking time.
- Once the kebabs are cooked, remove them from the grill or oven and let them rest for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy with mint chutney or a squeeze of lemon juice.
