Sage focaccia: tasty and easy to prepare
Sage focaccia is a savory Italian bread that's perfect as an appetizer or a side dish. Here's a simple recipe you can try:
Ingredients:
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon dried sage
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup warm water
- 1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
- Coarse sea salt, for sprinkling
- Fresh sage leaves, for topping
Directions:
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, dried sage, sugar, yeast, and salt.
- Add the warm water and 2 tablespoons of the olive oil to the bowl with the flour mixture, and stir until a sticky dough forms.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for 5-10 minutes until the dough becomes smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm, draft-free place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 425°F.
- Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with the remaining olive oil.
- Transfer the dough to the prepared baking dish and use your fingers to press it into the corners and edges of the dish.
- Drizzle the remaining olive oil over the top of the dough, and use your fingers to make dimples in the dough.
- Sprinkle coarse sea salt over the top of the dough, and top with fresh sage leaves.
- Bake the focaccia for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
- Remove the focaccia from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
