Sage focaccia: tasty and easy to prepare

Sage focaccia is a savory Italian bread that's perfect as an appetizer or a side dish. Here's a simple recipe you can try:

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon dried sage
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
  • Coarse sea salt, for sprinkling
  • Fresh sage leaves, for topping

Directions:

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, dried sage, sugar, yeast, and salt.
  2. Add the warm water and 2 tablespoons of the olive oil to the bowl with the flour mixture, and stir until a sticky dough forms.
  3. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for 5-10 minutes until the dough becomes smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm, draft-free place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat the oven to 425°F.
  6. Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with the remaining olive oil.
  7. Transfer the dough to the prepared baking dish and use your fingers to press it into the corners and edges of the dish.
  8. Drizzle the remaining olive oil over the top of the dough, and use your fingers to make dimples in the dough.
  9. Sprinkle coarse sea salt over the top of the dough, and top with fresh sage leaves.
  10. Bake the focaccia for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  11. Remove the focaccia from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.

Enjoy the delicious aroma and flavor of sage focaccia! You can also add other toppings like sliced onion, cherry tomatoes, or grated Parmesan cheese to make it even more flavorful.
