Mushroom Chicharon Recipe
Mushroom chicharon is a vegetarian take on the traditional Filipino pork rind snack. Here is a recipe for making mushroom chicharon:
Ingredients:
- 1 pound oyster mushrooms
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Oil for frying
Instructions:
- Clean the oyster mushrooms by wiping them with a damp paper towel or cloth. Cut off the woody stems and separate the mushrooms into small pieces.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
- Add the mushroom pieces to the bowl and toss them in the flour mixture until they are fully coated.
- Heat the oil in a deep-fryer or a large pot over medium-high heat.
- When the oil is hot, add the coated mushroom pieces to the oil in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pot.
- Fry the mushroom pieces for 2-3 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crispy.
- Remove the mushroom chicharon from the oil with a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain off any excess oil.
- Serve the mushroom chicharon with your favorite dipping sauce.
Enjoy your delicious and vegetarian-friendly mushroom chicharon, perfect as a snack or appetizer!
