A 12-layered chocolate cake is a decadent dessert that is perfect for special occasions or indulging your sweet tooth. Here's a recipe to create a delicious and impressive 12-layered chocolate cake:
Ingredients:
For the Cake Layers:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
For the Chocolate Ganache Frosting:
- 3 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Instructions:
For the Cake Layers:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease and flour three 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add the milk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract and beat with an electric mixer on medium speed for 2 minutes.
- Add the boiling water and mix until well combined.
- Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
- Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove from the pans and cool completely on wire racks.
For the Chocolate Ganache Frosting:
- In a medium-sized saucepan, heat the heavy cream until it just starts to simmer.
- Remove from heat and add the chocolate chips and vanilla extract.
- Let the mixture sit for 1-2 minutes, then stir until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is smooth.
- Let the ganache cool to room temperature and it will thicken to a spreadable consistency.
To Assemble the Cake:
- Once the cake layers have cooled, use a serrated knife to level the tops of each layer.
- Place one cake layer on a cake stand or serving plate.
- Spread a thin layer of ganache frosting on top of the cake layer.
- Add another cake layer on top and repeat with the ganache frosting until you have used all twelve layers.
- Use the remaining ganache to frost the sides and top of the cake, smoothing it out with an offset spatula.
- Decorate the cake with chocolate shavings or other toppings if desired.
