Aloo Mutton Curry
Aloo Mutton Curry is a flavorful Indian dish that combines tender mutton (goat or lamb) with potatoes in a rich and aromatic curry sauce.
Ingredients:
- 500 grams mutton (goat or lamb), cut into pieces
- 2 medium-sized potatoes, peeled and cubed
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 3 tomatoes, finely chopped
- 2 tablespoons ginger-garlic paste
- 2 green chilies, slit lengthwise (adjust according to spice preference)
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 2 teaspoons red chili powder
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 2 teaspoons coriander powder
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
- 1/2 teaspoon fennel seeds (saunf)
- 1/4 cup yogurt
- 3 tablespoons oil or ghee
- Salt to taste
- Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
Instructions:
- Heat oil or ghee in a pressure cooker or a large pot over medium heat.
- Add cumin seeds and fennel seeds to the hot oil and sauté for a few seconds until they start to splutter.
- Add the chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
- Add the ginger-garlic paste and green chilies. Sauté for a minute until the raw aroma disappears.
- Add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they soften and release their juices.
- Now, add the mutton pieces to the pot and mix well with the onion-tomato mixture. Cook for a few minutes until the mutton pieces are slightly browned.
- Add the red chili powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, and salt. Mix well to coat the mutton with the spices.
- Pour in the yogurt and mix it into the curry. Cook for a couple of minutes to incorporate the flavors.
- Add enough water to cover the mutton pieces and bring the curry to a boil.
- If using a pressure cooker, cover it with the lid and cook the curry for about 4-5 whistles or until the mutton is tender and cooked through. If using a pot, cover it with a lid and simmer the curry for about 1-2 hours, stirring occasionally, until the mutton becomes tender.
- Once the mutton is cooked, add the cubed potatoes to the curry. Mix well and cook for an additional 10-15 minutes until the potatoes are tender.
- Sprinkle garam masala over the curry and give it a final stir.
- Garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
- Serve the Aloo Mutton Curry hot with steamed rice, naan, or roti.
Aloo Mutton Curry is a delightful combination of tender meat and potatoes in a flavorful curry. The spices and slow cooking process infuse the dish with rich flavors, making it a comforting and satisfying meal.
