Onion Flower Stir Fry

Onion Flower Stir Fry is a simple and flavorful dish made with the blossoms of onion plants. It is a popular recipe in many Asian cuisines, including Chinese and Korean. The dish highlights the delicate and slightly sweet flavor of the onion flowers. Here's a basic recipe to prepare Onion Flower Stir Fry:

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups onion flowers (cleaned and petals separated)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: sliced green onions for garnishing

Instructions:

  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a wok or a large frying pan over medium heat.
  2. Add the minced garlic and grated ginger to the hot oil. Stir-fry for about 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to burn them.
  3. Add the separated onion flower petals to the pan. Stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until they become slightly wilted and tender.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, salt, and pepper.
  5. Pour the sauce mixture over the onion flowers in the pan. Stir-fry for an additional 1-2 minutes, ensuring that the flowers are well coated with the sauce.
  6. Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed.
  7. Remove from heat and transfer the stir-fried onion flowers to a serving dish.
  8. Garnish with sliced green onions, if desired.
  9. Serve hot as a side dish with steamed rice or as part of a larger stir-fry meal.

Note: Onion flowers cook quickly, so be mindful not to overcook them to retain their delicate texture and flavor. You can also add other vegetables like bell peppers, carrots, or mushrooms to the stir fry for more variety.
