Mutton Pepper Fry
Mutton Pepper Fry is a spicy and flavorful dish made with tender mutton (goat or lamb) cooked with a blend of aromatic spices and cracked black pepper.
Ingredients:
- 500 grams mutton (goat or lamb), cut into pieces
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes, finely chopped
- 2 teaspoons ginger-garlic paste
- 2 teaspoons black peppercorns, coarsely crushed
- 1 teaspoon fennel seeds (saunf)
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust according to spice preference)
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 2 tablespoons oil
- Salt to taste
- Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
Instructions:
- Heat oil in a large skillet or pressure cooker over medium heat.
- Add fennel seeds and cumin seeds to the hot oil and sauté for a few seconds until they start to splutter.
- Add the chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
- Add the ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a minute until the raw aroma disappears.
- Add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they soften and release their juices.
- Now, add the mutton pieces to the skillet and mix well with the onion-tomato mixture. Cook for a few minutes until the mutton is slightly browned.
- Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, crushed black peppercorns, and salt. Mix well to coat the mutton with the spices.
- If using a pressure cooker, cover it with the lid and cook the mutton for about 4-5 whistles or until the meat is tender. If using a skillet, cover it with a lid and simmer the mutton for about 1-2 hours, stirring occasionally, until the meat becomes tender.
- Once the mutton is cooked and tender, increase the heat to medium-high and cook uncovered for a few minutes to allow the excess moisture to evaporate and the flavors to intensify.
- Sprinkle garam masala over the mutton and give it a final stir.
- Garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
- Serve the Mutton Pepper Fry hot as a side dish with roti, naan, or steamed rice.
Mutton Pepper Fry is a spicy and aromatic dish that pairs well with rice or Indian bread. The combination of black pepper and spices adds a bold and delicious flavor to the tender mutton. Enjoy this flavorful mutton dish as a special treat!
