Microwave chocolate cake


  • 1 orange (zest);
  • 150g (1 cup) all-purpose flour;
  • 100g (½ cup) sugar;
  • 60g (⅔ cup) cocoa powder;
  • 10g (2 tsp) baking powder;
  • 90g (⅓ cup) butter, melted;
  • 370ml (1 ½ cup) hot water;
  • 30ml (2 tbsp) orange juice;
  • 150g (1 cup) chocolate chips;
  • 150ml (½ cup + 2 tbsp) full-fat cream.


  1. In a large bowl whisk flour, cocoa, baking powder, and orange zest.
  2. Pour in melted butter, hot water, and orange juice. Whisk until smooth batter forms.
  3. Pour the batter into a 16cm round silicone pan and microwave for around 6 minutes at 400W. Check with a toothpick.
  4. Mix chocolate chips with cream and microwave for a minute, whisk until smooth ganache forms.
  5. Flip the cooked cake onto a plate and top with ganache and an orange slice.
