Crispy Korean fried chicken, also known as KFC, is a popular and delicious dish featuring crunchy fried chicken coated in a sweet and spicy sauce. Follow these steps to make flavorful Korean-style fried chicken:

Ingredients for Fried Chicken:

  • 2 pounds chicken wings or drumsticks
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Ingredients for Sauce:

  • 1/4 cup gochujang (Korean chili paste)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey or corn syrup
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon grated ginger
  • Optional garnish: toasted sesame seeds, sliced green onions

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, combine all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, and black pepper.
  2. Toss chicken wings or drumsticks in the flour mixture until evenly coated.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or frying pan to 350°F (175°C).
  4. Carefully add coated chicken to the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding.
  5. Fry the chicken for 12-15 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown and cooked through. Ensure internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
  6. Place fried chicken on a wire rack or paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Instructions for Sauce:

  1. In a separate mixing bowl, combine gochujang, soy sauce, honey or corn syrup, rice vinegar, sesame oil, minced garlic, and grated ginger. Stir until the sauce is well mixed and smooth.
  2. Adjust sweetness or spiciness to taste by adding more honey or gochujang, respectively.

Instructions to Coat the Chicken with Sauce:

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Toss fried chicken with the prepared sauce in a large bowl until evenly coated.
  3. Transfer sauced chicken to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a greased baking dish.
  4. Bake chicken in the preheated oven for 10-15 minutes to allow the sauce to caramelize and the chicken to become extra crispy.
  5. Garnish with toasted sesame seeds and sliced green onions.
  6. Serve the crispy Korean fried chicken as an appetizer or main dish, and enjoy the delicious combination of crispy chicken and the sweet and spicy Korean sauce.
