Homemade Chocolate Chips

Making homemade chocolate chips is a fun and rewarding process that allows you to customize the flavor, sweetness, and size of the chips.
Ingredients:
- 8 ounces (226g) of high-quality chocolate (dark, milk, or white), chopped
- Optional: 1-2 teaspoons of coconut oil or vegetable shortening (for texture and shine)
Instructions:
- Prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper.
- In a microwave-safe bowl or a heatproof bowl set over a pot of simmering water, melt the chopped chocolate. If using the microwave, heat it in short intervals, stirring after each interval until the chocolate is melted and smooth. If using the stovetop method, stir the chocolate constantly until melted and smooth.
- If desired, add 1-2 teaspoons of coconut oil or vegetable shortening to the melted chocolate. This helps create a smoother texture and adds shine to the chocolate chips. Stir until the oil or shortening is fully incorporated.
- Pour the melted chocolate onto the prepared baking sheet. Use an offset spatula or the back of a spoon to spread the chocolate into an even layer, about 1/8 inch (3 mm) thick.
- Allow the chocolate to cool and set at room temperature until it becomes firm but still pliable. This usually takes about 20-30 minutes.
- Once the chocolate has cooled and set, use a sharp knife or a pizza cutter to cut the chocolate into small, chip-sized pieces. You can make them as large or as small as you like.
- Gently separate the chocolate chips from each other and transfer them to an airtight container or a zip-top bag.
- Store the homemade chocolate chips in a cool, dry place. They can be stored at room temperature for several weeks, but you can also refrigerate or freeze them for longer storage.
Now you have homemade chocolate chips ready to be used in your favorite recipes! You can add them to cookies, brownies, muffins, or any other baked goods. They also make a great addition to trail mixes or as a topping for ice cream. Enjoy the satisfaction of using your homemade chocolate chips in your homemade treats!
