Fried Rice Papers: crispy and super easy to make
Fried rice papers are a delicious and simple snack that can be made quickly at home. They are light, crispy, and can be filled with various ingredients for added flavor.
Ingredients:
- Rice papers (spring roll wrappers)
- Cooking oil for frying
Optional Fillings:
- Shredded vegetables (carrots, cabbage, bean sprouts)
- Cooked protein (chicken, shrimp, tofu)
- Fresh herbs (cilantro, mint, basil)
- Soy sauce or dipping sauce for serving
Instructions:
- Prepare your desired fillings by shredding vegetables, cooking protein, and washing fresh herbs. Have them ready for stuffing the rice papers.
- Fill a large bowl with warm water. Dip one rice paper into the water and let it soften for a few seconds until it becomes pliable. Be careful not to oversoak the rice paper, as it will become too soft and difficult to handle.
- Place the softened rice paper on a clean, flat surface, such as a cutting board or plate.
- Add your desired fillings onto the lower half of the rice paper. Be mindful not to overstuff it, as it can make it challenging to roll.
- Fold the sides of the rice paper over the fillings, then gently roll it up tightly, similar to a burrito.
- Repeat the process with the remaining rice papers and fillings.
- Heat cooking oil in a deep skillet or wok over medium heat. Make sure there is enough oil to submerge the rice papers.
- Once the oil is hot, carefully place a rolled rice paper into the oil. Fry it for about 1-2 minutes on each side until it turns golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon or tongs to flip the rice paper during frying.
- Remove the fried rice paper from the oil and place it on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Repeat the frying process with the remaining rolled rice papers.
- Allow the fried rice papers to cool slightly before serving. They can be enjoyed as is or paired with a dipping sauce of your choice, such as soy sauce or a homemade dipping sauce.
