Chocolate Filled Buns

Chocolate-filled buns, also known as chocolate buns or chocolate-filled rolls, are a delicious baked treat made with a dough that is rolled and filled with chocolate before being baked. The dough is typically a sweet, yeast-based dough that rises and becomes soft and fluffy when baked. The filling consists of pieces or bars of chocolate, which melt and create a gooey, chocolaty center when baked. The buns are often brushed with egg wash before baking to give them a shiny and golden crust. After baking, they can be optionally dusted with powdered sugar for added sweetness and decoration. Chocolate-filled buns are enjoyed as a delightful breakfast, snack, or dessert option by chocolate lovers of all ages.
Ingredients:
- 270ml (1 cup) milk
- 15g fresh yeast
- 520g (4 cups) flour
- 120g (1/2 cup) sugar
- 1 egg
- 80ml (1/4 cup) vegetable oil
- 200g dark chocolate
- Additional egg for brushing
- Powdered sugar for decoration
Steps:
- Dissolve the fresh yeast in a small bowl with milk, stirring until the yeast is fully dissolved.
- In a separate bowl, combine the flour, sugar, prepared yeast mixture, and egg. Mix well with a spatula until the ingredients are thoroughly combined. Begin kneading the dough until a smooth consistency is achieved. Gradually add the vegetable oil while continuing to knead. Once the dough is smooth, cover it with cling film and let it rise for 2 hours.
- Once the rising time is complete, transfer the dough to a floured working surface. Roll it out into a rectangle shape, approximately 30x40cm in size. Cut the dough into 8 equal pieces. Place a piece of dark chocolate onto each dough piece.
- Starting from one end, roll up each rectangle of dough, making sure to enclose the chocolate within. Roll the dough firmly to form a bun shape.
- Arrange the buns on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Cover them with a cloth and allow them to rise for 1 hour.
- After the hour has passed, preheat the oven to 190°C/374°F. Brush the risen buns with beaten egg, then transfer them to the oven. Bake for approximately 20 minutes until the buns turn golden brown.
- Once baked, remove the buns from the oven and let them cool. Decorate the buns with a dusting of powdered sugar. Serve and enjoy!
