Chili Crunch Tofu

Chili Crunch Tofu

Chili Crunch Tofu is a delicious and spicy dish that features crispy tofu cubes coated in a flavorful chili sauce.

Ingredients:

  • 1 block of firm tofu, cut into cubes
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch or tapioca starch
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons sweet chili sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup or honey (for non-vegan option)
  • 1 tablespoon sriracha sauce (adjust to your spice preference)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon grated ginger
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds, for garnish
  • Chopped green onions, for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Drain the tofu and press out any excess water. Cut the tofu into bite-sized cubes.
  2. In a shallow dish, coat the tofu cubes with cornstarch or tapioca starch, shaking off any excess.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan or skillet over medium-high heat. Carefully add the coated tofu cubes and fry them until they turn golden brown and crispy on all sides. Remove the tofu from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, sweet chili sauce, rice vinegar, maple syrup or honey, sriracha sauce, minced garlic, grated ginger, and sesame oil until well combined.
  5. Heat a small amount of oil in a clean skillet or pan over medium heat. Add the sauce mixture to the pan and cook for a few minutes until it thickens slightly.
  6. Add the fried tofu cubes to the pan with the sauce and toss gently to coat the tofu with the sauce. Cook for another minute or two until the tofu is fully coated and heated through.
  7. Remove the Chili Crunch Tofu from heat and transfer it to a serving dish.
  8. Garnish with toasted sesame seeds and chopped green onions.
  9. Serve the Chili Crunch Tofu as an appetizer or main course, and enjoy its spicy and flavorful crunch!

Feel free to adjust the level of spiciness by adding more or less sriracha sauce, and modify the sweetness by adjusting the amount of maple syrup or honey. Pair it with steamed rice or noodles for a complete meal.
