Fried Ribs

Fried Ribs

Fried ribs are a delicious and indulgent dish that typically involves deep-frying or pan-frying ribs until they are crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. While ribs are often associated with slow-cooking or barbecuing, frying them provides a unique and flavorful alternative.

Ingredients:

  • Ribs (baby back ribs or spare ribs)
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)
  • All-purpose flour
  • Eggs (beaten)
  • Bread crumbs or panko crumbs
  • Cooking oil (vegetable, canola, or peanut oil)

Instructions:

  1. Preparing the Ribs:
    • Start by cleaning and trimming the ribs to remove excess fat and any silver skin.
    • Season the ribs with salt and pepper, ensuring they are evenly coated. Let them sit for about 15-20 minutes to allow the flavors to infuse.
  2. Breading the Ribs:
    • Prepare three separate shallow dishes or bowls. Place all-purpose flour in one, beaten eggs in another, and bread crumbs or panko crumbs in the third.
    • Take a rib and coat it in flour, shaking off any excess. Dip it into the beaten eggs, making sure it's fully coated. Finally, roll it in the bread crumbs or panko crumbs, pressing gently to adhere the crumbs to the rib. Repeat this process for each rib.
  3. Frying the Ribs:
    • In a deep pan or skillet, heat enough cooking oil to submerge the ribs. The oil should be around 350-375°F (175-190°C).
    • Carefully place the breaded ribs into the hot oil, a few at a time, ensuring they have enough space to cook evenly. Avoid overcrowding the pan.
    • Fry the ribs for about 4-6 minutes per side or until they turn golden brown and crispy. You may need to adjust the cooking time depending on the thickness of the ribs.
    • Once the ribs are cooked, use tongs to transfer them to a paper towel-lined plate or wire rack to drain any excess oil.
  4. Serving:
    • Let the fried ribs rest for a few minutes before serving to allow them to cool slightly and become easier to handle.
    • Fried ribs can be served as is or with your favorite dipping sauce, such as barbecue sauce or sweet chili sauce.
    • They make a fantastic appetizer or main course and are often enjoyed with sides like coleslaw, mashed potatoes, or cornbread.

Remember to exercise caution when working with hot oil and to follow proper safety guidelines while frying. Adjust the seasoning and cooking time according to your taste preferences and the specific type of ribs you're using. Enjoy your crispy and delicious fried ribs!
