Classic Sloppy Joe sandwiches

Classic Sloppy Joes are a beloved comfort food that consists of a flavorful ground beef filling served on hamburger buns.
Ingredients:
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 small green bell pepper, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- Hamburger buns
Instructions:
- In a large skillet or pan, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned. Break up the beef with a spoon or spatula as it cooks. Drain any excess fat from the pan.
- Add the chopped onion, bell pepper, and minced garlic to the skillet with the ground beef. Sauté for about 3-4 minutes, or until the vegetables have softened.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the ketchup, tomato paste, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, chili powder, salt, and black pepper until well combined.
- Pour the sauce mixture into the skillet with the ground beef and vegetables. Stir well to coat the meat and vegetables with the sauce.
- Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, to allow the flavors to meld together and the sauce to thicken slightly.
- Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed, adding more salt, pepper, or other spices to suit your preference.
- Toast the hamburger buns, if desired.
- Spoon a generous amount of the Sloppy Joe filling onto the bottom half of each hamburger bun. Top with the other half of the bun.
Serve the Classic Sloppy Joes hot and enjoy the messy, flavorful goodness! You can also add cheese slices, pickles, or other toppings of your choice to customize your Sloppy Joe sandwiches. Serve them with coleslaw, potato chips, or a side salad for a complete meal.
