Spicy Chicken Pickle
Spicy chicken pickle is a tangy and flavorful dish where chicken is marinated with spices, vinegar, and other seasonings, creating a delicious and spicy pickle-like preparation. It can be enjoyed as a side dish or added to sandwiches, wraps, or salads for an extra kick.
Ingredients:
- 1 lb (450g) boneless chicken, cut into small pieces
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 1 teaspoon fennel seeds
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 tablespoon red chili powder (adjust to your desired level of spiciness)
- 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
- 1 tablespoon vinegar
- Juice of 1 lemon
- Salt, to taste
- Fresh coriander leaves, chopped (for garnish, optional)
Instructions:
- In a bowl, combine the chicken pieces, turmeric powder, red chili powder, ginger-garlic paste, vinegar, lemon juice, and salt. Mix well, ensuring that the chicken pieces are coated with the marinade. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes to an hour, or refrigerate overnight for more intense flavors.
- Heat vegetable oil in a pan or skillet over medium heat. Add mustard seeds, fennel seeds, and cumin seeds. Allow them to splutter and release their aromas.
- Add the marinated chicken to the pan and stir-fry for about 5-7 minutes until the chicken is cooked through and slightly browned. Make sure the chicken is fully cooked before proceeding to the next step.
- Remove the pan from heat and let the chicken cool down to room temperature.
- Once the chicken has cooled, transfer it to a clean and dry jar or airtight container.
- Tightly seal the jar or container and store it in a cool, dry place for at least 2-3 days to allow the flavors to develop and meld together. The longer you keep it, the more flavorful it will become.
- After the resting period, give the jar or container a gentle shake to evenly distribute the flavors.
- Serve the spicy chicken pickle as a side dish or as a condiment with your favorite meals. It can be enjoyed immediately or refrigerated for a longer shelf life.
- If desired, garnish the spicy chicken pickle with freshly chopped coriander leaves before serving.
Note: Make sure to use clean and dry utensils while handling the chicken pickle to prevent any moisture from entering the jar, as it can reduce its shelf life.
The spicy chicken pickle offers a burst of flavors and spice that complements various dishes. Enjoy its tangy and fiery taste as a condiment or a side dish.
