Popcorn Chicken

Popcorn Chicken

Popcorn chicken is a popular snack or appetizer made from bite-sized pieces of boneless chicken that are coated in a crispy, seasoned batter and then deep-fried until golden and crunchy. It's a delicious and addictive finger food.

Ingredients:

  • 500 grams boneless chicken, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for added heat)
  • 1 cup buttermilk (or plain yogurt mixed with a little water)
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, paprika, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper (if using). Mix well to create the seasoned flour mixture.
  2. Dip the chicken pieces into the buttermilk (or yogurt mixture), ensuring they are well coated.
  3. Roll each chicken piece in the seasoned flour mixture until fully coated. Press the flour mixture onto the chicken to ensure it adheres well.
  4. Place the coated chicken pieces on a plate or tray and let them rest for about 10-15 minutes. This allows the coating to set and adhere to the chicken.
  5. Heat vegetable oil in a deep pot or deep fryer to about 180°C (350°F).
  6. Carefully lower a few chicken pieces into the hot oil using a slotted spoon or tongs, making sure not to overcrowd the pot.
  7. Fry the chicken pieces for about 3-4 minutes or until they turn golden brown and crispy. Stir occasionally to ensure even cooking.
  8. Once the chicken pieces are cooked, remove them from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  9. Repeat the frying process with the remaining chicken pieces.
  10. Serve the popcorn chicken hot as a snack or appetizer with your favorite dipping sauce, such as ketchup, barbecue sauce, or ranch dressing.

Popcorn chicken is a crowd-pleasing dish that can be enjoyed on its own, paired with dipping sauces, or used as a topping for salads or wraps. It's a great option for parties, movie nights, or any time you're craving a crispy and flavorful chicken snack.
