Popcorn Chicken
Popcorn chicken is a popular snack or appetizer made from bite-sized pieces of boneless chicken that are coated in a crispy, seasoned batter and then deep-fried until golden and crunchy. It's a delicious and addictive finger food.
Ingredients:
- 500 grams boneless chicken, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for added heat)
- 1 cup buttermilk (or plain yogurt mixed with a little water)
- Vegetable oil, for frying
Instructions:
- In a bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, paprika, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper (if using). Mix well to create the seasoned flour mixture.
- Dip the chicken pieces into the buttermilk (or yogurt mixture), ensuring they are well coated.
- Roll each chicken piece in the seasoned flour mixture until fully coated. Press the flour mixture onto the chicken to ensure it adheres well.
- Place the coated chicken pieces on a plate or tray and let them rest for about 10-15 minutes. This allows the coating to set and adhere to the chicken.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep pot or deep fryer to about 180°C (350°F).
- Carefully lower a few chicken pieces into the hot oil using a slotted spoon or tongs, making sure not to overcrowd the pot.
- Fry the chicken pieces for about 3-4 minutes or until they turn golden brown and crispy. Stir occasionally to ensure even cooking.
- Once the chicken pieces are cooked, remove them from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Repeat the frying process with the remaining chicken pieces.
- Serve the popcorn chicken hot as a snack or appetizer with your favorite dipping sauce, such as ketchup, barbecue sauce, or ranch dressing.
Popcorn chicken is a crowd-pleasing dish that can be enjoyed on its own, paired with dipping sauces, or used as a topping for salads or wraps. It's a great option for parties, movie nights, or any time you're craving a crispy and flavorful chicken snack.
