Orange Pavlova
Orange Pavlova is a delicious dessert that is a variation of the traditional Pavlova, a popular meringue-based dessert. It incorporates the flavors of oranges to give it a citrusy twist.
Ingredients:
- 4 large egg whites
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon white vinegar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Zest of 1 orange
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
- Orange segments, for garnish
- Fresh mint leaves, for garnish
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 250°F (120°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a clean, dry bowl, beat the egg whites using an electric mixer until soft peaks form.
- Gradually add the granulated sugar, one tablespoon at a time, while continuing to beat the egg whites. Beat until the sugar is fully incorporated and the mixture forms stiff, glossy peaks.
- In a small bowl, mix together the cornstarch, white vinegar, vanilla extract, and orange zest.
- Gently fold the cornstarch mixture into the beaten egg whites using a spatula, taking care not to overmix and deflate the mixture.
- Spoon the meringue mixture onto the prepared baking sheet, shaping it into a round disc or individual nests.
- Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for about 1 hour or until the meringue is crisp on the outside and chewy on the inside. Turn off the oven and let the meringue cool completely inside the oven with the door slightly ajar.
- In the meantime, prepare the whipped cream by beating the heavy cream and powdered sugar together until soft peaks form.
- Once the meringue has cooled, carefully transfer it to a serving plate or individual dessert plates.
- Fill the center or nests of the meringue with the whipped cream.
- Garnish the Orange Pavlova with orange segments and fresh mint leaves.
- Serve immediately and enjoy!
