Your Fried Chicken Sandwich is ready to enjoy! Serve it with your favorite side dishes like coleslaw or French fries for a complete meal.

Ingredients:

For the Fried Chicken:

  • 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • Vegetable oil for frying

For the Sandwich:

  • 4 hamburger buns
  • Lettuce leaves
  • Sliced tomatoes
  • Sliced pickles
  • Mayonnaise
  • Hot sauce (optional, for extra kick)

Instructions:

Fried Chicken:

  1. Start by pounding the chicken breasts to an even thickness (about 1/2 inch) between two sheets of plastic wrap or parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, marinate the chicken in buttermilk for at least 30 minutes or longer if possible. This helps make the chicken extra tender.
  3. In another bowl, mix the flour, salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  4. Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a large, deep skillet or Dutch oven to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Remove each piece of chicken from the buttermilk, allowing excess liquid to drip off.
  6. Dredge the chicken in the seasoned flour mixture, pressing the flour onto the chicken to ensure a good coating.
  7. Carefully place the chicken in the hot oil and fry for about 5-7 minutes per side, or until it's golden brown and the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C). Make sure the chicken is cooked through.
  8. Once cooked, transfer the fried chicken to a plate lined with paper towels to remove excess oil.

Assembling the Sandwich:

  1. Toast the hamburger buns until they are slightly browned.
  2. Spread mayonnaise on both the top and bottom buns. You can add hot sauce to the mayonnaise for a spicy kick if you like.
  3. Place a piece of lettuce on the bottom bun, followed by a slice of tomato and a few pickles.
  4. Add the crispy fried chicken on top of the pickles.
  5. Top with the other half of the bun.
