Pilgrim Sandwich

Pilgrim Sandwich

This Thanksgiving Sandwich is a delicious way to use up Turkey Day leftovers. All the best parts of the holiday feast piled onto a sweet and savory sandwich.

Ingredients:

  • 2 slices of your favorite bread (often sourdough or whole wheat)
  • 3-4 slices of roasted turkey
  • 1/4 cup cranberry sauce
  • 2-3 tablespoons of leftover stuffing
  • 2-3 tablespoons of leftover mashed potatoes
  • 1-2 tablespoons of gravy
  • 1-2 tablespoons of mayonnaise (optional)
  • Lettuce leaves (optional)
  • Sliced cheese (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Start by toasting the bread slices if desired.
  2. If using, spread a layer of mayonnaise on one or both slices of bread. This step is optional but can add extra creaminess to the sandwich.
  3. On one bread slice, layer the roasted turkey slices. You can heat them up briefly in the microwave or on the stovetop to make them warm.
  4. On top of the turkey, add a layer of leftover stuffing. Spread it out evenly.
  5. Spoon cranberry sauce over the stuffing layer. Make sure it's distributed evenly.
  6. If you have leftover mashed potatoes, warm them slightly and add a layer over the cranberry sauce.
  7. If you have any leftover gravy, drizzle it over the mashed potatoes for extra flavor.
  8. Optionally, add lettuce leaves or sliced cheese on top for extra freshness and creaminess.
  9. Place the second slice of bread on top, mayonnaise side down.
  10. Press the sandwich together gently, then cut it in half diagonally for easy handling.
