Chocolate Snack Cake

This chocolate snack cake bakes up so tender and is topped with decadent chocolate buttercream and chocolate ganache! It's a chocolate lover's dream.
Ingredients:
For the Cake:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup hot water
For the Chocolate Frosting:
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 1/3 cup milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions:
For the Cake:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour an 8x8-inch square baking pan.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until the batter is smooth.
- Gradually stir in the hot water until the batter is well mixed. The batter will be thin, but that's okay.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
For the Chocolate Frosting:
- In a saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Stir in the cocoa powder until the mixture is smooth. Remove it from the heat.
- Stir in the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until the frosting is creamy and well combined.
- Pour the chocolate frosting over the cooled cake and spread it evenly.
- Allow the frosting to set before cutting and serving the cake.
