Baked Candied Yams
Enjoy your delicious Baked Candied Yams!
Ingredients:
- 4 to 5 medium-sized yams or sweet potatoes, peeled and sliced into rounds or chunks
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Marshmallows for topping (optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat the Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Prepare the Yams:
- Peel the yams or sweet potatoes and cut them into rounds or chunks, whichever you prefer.
- Prepare the Candied Coating:
- In a bowl, mix together the melted butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Coat the Yams:
- Place the yam slices or chunks in a large mixing bowl. Pour the candied coating mixture over the yams and toss until they are evenly coated.
- Bake:
- Transfer the coated yams to a baking dish in a single layer.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 40-45 minutes, or until the yams are tender, stirring occasionally to ensure even coating.
- Optional Marshmallow Topping:
- If you want to add marshmallows, remove the dish from the oven a few minutes before the yams are done, sprinkle marshmallows on top, and return to the oven until the marshmallows are golden brown.
- Serve:
- Once the yams are tender and cooked through, remove from the oven. Let them rest for a few minutes before serving.
