Sweet Potato Casserole

Let's turn this weird root into something creative and delicious!.. Who says that yams and marshmallow was a hit?
Ingredients:
For the Sweet Potatoes:
- 4 cups mashed sweet potatoes (about 4-5 medium-sized sweet potatoes)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 cup milk (whole or evaporated)
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- A pinch of salt
For the Topping:
- 1 cup chopped pecans
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
Instructions:
- Prepare Sweet Potatoes:
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Wash and peel the sweet potatoes. Cut them into chunks and boil until they are fork-tender. Mash the sweet potatoes in a large bowl.
- Mix Sweet Potato Base:
- To the mashed sweet potatoes, add melted butter, milk, brown sugar, maple syrup, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and a pinch of salt. Mix until well combined.
- Transfer to Casserole Dish:
- Transfer the sweet potato mixture to a greased baking dish or casserole dish, spreading it evenly.
- Prepare Topping:
- In a separate bowl, mix chopped pecans, brown sugar, all-purpose flour, and melted butter to create the topping.
- Add Topping:
- Sprinkle the topping evenly over the sweet potato mixture in the casserole dish.
- Bake:
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the sweet potato mixture is heated through.
- Serve:
- Allow the casserole to cool slightly before serving. Serve warm.
