Sweet Potato Casserole

Let's turn this weird root into something creative and delicious!.. Who says that yams and marshmallow was a hit?


For the Sweet Potatoes:

  • 4 cups mashed sweet potatoes (about 4-5 medium-sized sweet potatoes)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup milk (whole or evaporated)
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • A pinch of salt

For the Topping:

  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted


  1. Prepare Sweet Potatoes:
    • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • Wash and peel the sweet potatoes. Cut them into chunks and boil until they are fork-tender. Mash the sweet potatoes in a large bowl.
  2. Mix Sweet Potato Base:
    • To the mashed sweet potatoes, add melted butter, milk, brown sugar, maple syrup, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and a pinch of salt. Mix until well combined.
  3. Transfer to Casserole Dish:
    • Transfer the sweet potato mixture to a greased baking dish or casserole dish, spreading it evenly.
  4. Prepare Topping:
    • In a separate bowl, mix chopped pecans, brown sugar, all-purpose flour, and melted butter to create the topping.
  5. Add Topping:
    • Sprinkle the topping evenly over the sweet potato mixture in the casserole dish.
  6. Bake:
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the sweet potato mixture is heated through.
  7. Serve:
    • Allow the casserole to cool slightly before serving. Serve warm.
