Chocolate Buttercream Cake

Ingredients:
For the Chocolate Cake:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 and 3/4 cups granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
For the Chocolate Buttercream Frosting:
- 1 and 1/2 cups unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- A pinch of salt
Instructions:
For the Chocolate Cake:
- Preheat Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- Combine Dry Ingredients:
- In a large mixing bowl, sift together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
- Add Wet Ingredients:
- Add eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until well combined.
- Add Boiling Water:
- Stir in the boiling water until the batter is well mixed. The batter will be thin, but that's okay.
- Pour into Pans:
- Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.
- Bake:
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Cool:
- Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
For the Chocolate Buttercream Frosting:
- Cream Butter and Cocoa:
- In a large bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy. Add the cocoa powder and beat until well combined.
- Add Sugar and Milk:
- Gradually add powdered sugar, alternating with milk, beating continuously. Add vanilla extract and a pinch of salt. Beat until smooth and creamy.
- Frost the Cake:
- Once the cakes are completely cooled, spread a layer of chocolate buttercream frosting over the top of one cake layer. Place the second cake layer on top and frost the entire cake.
- Decorate (Optional):
- Decorate the cake with additional frosting, chocolate shavings, or other decorations if desired.
- Slice and Enjoy:
- Slice and enjoy your decadent Chocolate Buttercream Cake!
