Basted Eggs

Basted Eggs

Basted eggs are one of the easiest and tastiest ways to prepare an over-easy egg that is perfectly cooked every single time.

Ingredients:

  • Eggs
  • Butter
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Pan:
    • Heat a non-stick skillet or frying pan over medium heat.
  2. Add Butter:
    • Add a generous pat of butter to the heated pan. Allow it to melt and coat the bottom of the pan.
  3. Crack Eggs into Pan:
    • Crack the eggs and gently slide them into the pan, being careful not to break the yolks.
  4. Baste with Butter:
    • Once the egg whites begin to set, spoon the melted butter over the eggs. This helps cook the tops of the eggs without flipping them.
  5. Cover the Pan (Optional):
    • If you prefer your basted eggs with set whites and runny yolks, cover the pan with a lid or a plate to trap the heat and steam.
  6. Season:
    • Sprinkle salt and pepper over the eggs according to your taste preferences.
  7. Cook to Desired Doneness:
    • Continue cooking until the egg whites are fully set but the yolks are still runny for a classic basted egg. If you prefer firmer yolks, cook a bit longer.
  8. Serve:
    • Once the eggs are cooked to your liking, use a spatula to carefully transfer them to a plate.
  9. Enjoy:
    • Serve the basted eggs immediately, and enjoy the rich, buttery flavor!
