Saffron Rice
This Saffron Rice is a flavorful and naturally colorful side dish. Learn how to make it with our easy, step-by-step recipe.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup basmati rice
- 2 cups water
- A pinch of saffron threads
- 2 tablespoons warm milk
- 2 tablespoons butter or ghee
- Salt to taste
- Optional: Slivered almonds or chopped pistachios for garnish
Instructions:
- Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
- In a small bowl, soak the saffron threads in warm milk. Let it steep for about 10-15 minutes to allow the saffron to infuse its color and flavor into the milk.
- In a pot, bring 2 cups of water to a boil. Add the rinsed rice and a pinch of salt. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer until the rice is cooked and the water is absorbed. This usually takes about 15-20 minutes.
- While the rice is cooking, melt the butter or ghee in a small pan.
- Once the rice is cooked, fluff it with a fork. Pour the saffron-infused milk over the rice, drizzle with melted butter or ghee, and gently mix to distribute the saffron evenly.
- Cover the pot and let the saffron rice rest for a few minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
- Optional: Garnish with slivered almonds or chopped pistachios for added texture and flavor.
