Saffron Rice

Saffron Rice

This Saffron Rice is a flavorful and naturally colorful side dish. Learn how to make it with our easy, step-by-step recipe.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup basmati rice
  • 2 cups water
  • A pinch of saffron threads
  • 2 tablespoons warm milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter or ghee
  • Salt to taste
  • Optional: Slivered almonds or chopped pistachios for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
  2. In a small bowl, soak the saffron threads in warm milk. Let it steep for about 10-15 minutes to allow the saffron to infuse its color and flavor into the milk.
  3. In a pot, bring 2 cups of water to a boil. Add the rinsed rice and a pinch of salt. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer until the rice is cooked and the water is absorbed. This usually takes about 15-20 minutes.
  4. While the rice is cooking, melt the butter or ghee in a small pan.
  5. Once the rice is cooked, fluff it with a fork. Pour the saffron-infused milk over the rice, drizzle with melted butter or ghee, and gently mix to distribute the saffron evenly.
  6. Cover the pot and let the saffron rice rest for a few minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  7. Optional: Garnish with slivered almonds or chopped pistachios for added texture and flavor.
