  • 4 fish fillets (any white fish like tilapia, cod, or haddock)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp oil for marination, plus extra for frying
  • 2 eggs (optional, for an egg wash)

  1. Rinse the fish fillets and pat them dry with a paper towel.
  2. In a bowl, mix together flour, red chili powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, and salt.
  3. Add lemon juice and 2 tablespoons of oil to the dry mixture to form a thick paste. Adjust the consistency by adding more oil if needed.
  4. Apply this masala paste to both sides of each fish fillet, ensuring they are well coated. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to infuse.
  5. If you prefer a crispy coating, you can beat eggs in a separate bowl and dip each marinated fillet into the egg wash before frying.
  6. Heat oil in a pan for shallow frying. Once the oil is hot, carefully place the marinated fish fillets in the pan.
  7. Fry each side until it turns golden brown and the fish is cooked through. This usually takes about 3-4 minutes per side, depending on the thickness of the fillets.
  8. Once done, place the fried fish on a paper towel to absorb any excess oil.
