Gingerbread Syrup

You've simply got to top the Eggnog French Toast with our gingerbread syrup. I'm not kidding, it really tastes like gingerbread! And who doesn't love gingerbread flavors around the holidays?

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1 tablespoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Combine Ingredients:
    • In a saucepan, combine water, sugar, molasses, ground ginger, ground cinnamon, and ground cloves.
  2. Bring to a Simmer:
    • Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring to dissolve the sugar.
  3. Simmer and Infuse:
    • Let the mixture simmer for about 5-7 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the syrup to thicken slightly.
  4. Add Vanilla Extract:
    • Stir in the vanilla extract during the last minute of simmering.
  5. Strain (Optional):
    • If you prefer a smoother syrup, you can strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve to remove any spice particles.
  6. Cool:
    • Allow the gingerbread syrup to cool to room temperature.
  7. Store:
    • Transfer the cooled syrup to a glass jar or bottle with a tight-fitting lid.
  8. Use:
    • Use the gingerbread syrup to flavor your favorite beverages, desserts, or breakfast dishes.
