Cantonese Food

Thought it might be fun to do this video in Cantonese as well - that is, what is Cantonese home cooking? The Canto version is more chit-chatty and mostly for fun. We did have fun filming it, it's nice to make a video in Cantonese once in a while, hope you like it too!

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (450g) boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 cup pineapple chunks
  • 1 bell pepper, cut into chunks
  • 1 onion, cut into chunks
  • 1 carrot, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup rice vinegar
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • Vegetable oil for cooking
  • Sesame seeds and chopped green onions for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, mix ketchup, rice vinegar, soy sauce, and sugar to make the sauce. Dissolve cornstarch in 2 tablespoons of water and add it to the sauce. Set aside.
  2. In a wok or large skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add chicken pieces and cook until browned and cooked through. Remove chicken from the wok and set aside.
  3. In the same wok, add a bit more oil if needed. Stir-fry garlic, bell pepper, onion, and carrot until vegetables are slightly tender.
  4. Add pineapple chunks and cooked chicken back to the wok.
  5. Pour the prepared sauce over the chicken and vegetables. Stir well to coat everything evenly. Allow the sauce to thicken.
  6. Once the sauce thickens and coats the ingredients, remove from heat.
  7. Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions if desired.
