Marbled Cake

Marbled Cake

Marbled cake is a delightful dessert that features a visually appealing swirl of chocolate and vanilla or other contrasting flavors. The marbling effect is achieved by combining two different batters—typically one with cocoa for chocolate flavor and the other without for a vanilla or plain flavor.

Ingredients:

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 3 tablespoons cocoa powder

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a bundt pan or a regular cake pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk. Begin and end with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  6. In a separate small bowl, take about 1 cup of the batter and mix it with cocoa powder to create the chocolate portion of the batter.
  7. Spoon alternating dollops of vanilla and chocolate batter into the prepared pan.
  8. Use a knife or skewer to create a marbled effect by gently swirling the two batters together. Do not overmix; you want a marbled pattern.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for about 50-60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  10. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  11. Once cooled, you can optionally dust the top with powdered sugar or drizzle with a simple glaze.
