Rum Raisin Butter

Rum Raisin Butter

We will show you how to make Raisin Butter, a nostalgic appetizer in Japan during the 1970s and 1980s. It’s a simple mixture of butter and raisins shaped into a log, which is then cut into thin rounds. Raisin butter can also be used on bread, toast, muffins, or as a topping for pancakes and waffles.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup dark rum
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar (optional)
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions:

  1. In a small saucepan, heat the rum over low heat. Add the raisins and let them soak in the rum until plump.
  2. Drain the raisins, reserving the rum.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the softened butter, soaked raisins, and a pinch of salt.
  4. Gradually add the reserved rum to the mixture while stirring until well combined.
  5. If you prefer a sweeter butter, add powdered sugar to taste and mix until smooth.
  6. Transfer the rum raisin butter to a serving dish or shape it into a log using plastic wrap for easy slicing.
  7. Refrigerate until the butter is firm.
  8. Spread the rum raisin butter on toast, pancakes, waffles, or use it as a topping for desserts.
