Smothered Turkey Wings
Smothered turkey wings are hands-down my favorite protein. They are great year-round, but always get extra love during the holiday season. I’m going to show you how to make the most tender, moist, and delicious smothered turkey wings. These will be a new favorite of yours, I guarantee it.
Ingredients:
- 4 turkey wings
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 1 bell pepper, finely chopped
- 3 celery stalks, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups chicken or turkey broth
- 1 bay leaf
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley (for garnish)
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Season the turkey wings with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, thyme, and oregano.
- Dredge the seasoned turkey wings in flour, shaking off any excess.
- In a large oven-safe skillet or Dutch oven, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
- Brown the turkey wings on all sides until they develop a golden crust. Remove the wings and set them aside.
- In the same pan, add chopped onion, bell pepper, celery, and minced garlic. Sauté until the vegetables are softened.
- Sprinkle any remaining flour over the vegetables and stir well to combine.
- Slowly add the broth to the pan, stirring continuously to avoid lumps.
- Return the browned turkey wings to the pan. Add the bay leaf.
- Cover the pan and transfer it to the preheated oven. Bake for 1.5 to 2 hours or until the turkey wings are tender and the sauce has thickened.
- Check the seasoning and adjust salt and pepper if needed.
- Garnish with chopped fresh parsley before serving.
