Coffee Meringue

Ingredients:

  • 4 large egg whites (approx. 68 kcal)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (800 kcal)
  • 1 tablespoon instant coffee or espresso powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • Whipped cream and coffee beans for garnish (optional)

Cooking Steps:

Step 1: Preheat your oven to 225°F (107°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2: In a clean, dry bowl, whip the egg whites with an electric mixer until soft peaks form.

Step 3: Gradually add sugar, one tablespoon at a time, while continuing to whip the egg whites. This will result in a glossy and stiff meringue.

Step 4: Dissolve instant coffee or espresso powder in a teaspoon of warm water. Add the coffee mixture, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt to the meringue. Gently fold them in to incorporate without deflating the meringue.

Step 5: Using a piping bag or spoon, create mounds of meringue on the prepared baking sheet.

Step 6: Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the meringues are crisp on the outside.

Step 7: Allow the Coffee Meringues to cool completely on the baking sheet.

Step 8: Optional: Garnish with a dollop of whipped cream and a few coffee beans for an extra touch of elegance.
