Ingredients:

  1. 3 cups all-purpose flour (360 kcal)
  2. 1 teaspoon baking powder
  3. 1 tablespoon ground ginger
  4. 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  5. 1 teaspoon ground cloves
  6. 1 cup unsalted butter, softened (1624 kcal)
  7. 1 cup packed brown sugar
  8. 1 large egg
  9. 1 cup molasses
  10. Royal icing for construction and decoration
  11. Assorted candies, chocolates, and edible decorations

Instructions:

Step 1: Make the Gingerbread Dough

  • In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and spices.
  • In another bowl, cream together butter and brown sugar until fluffy.
  • Add the egg and molasses, mixing well.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to form a dough. Divide and chill.

Step 2: Roll and Cut Shapes

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Roll out the chilled dough and cut out house shapes – walls, roof, and other desired pieces.

Step 3: Bake

  • Use royal icing as "glue" to assemble the gingerbread house pieces.
  • Hold the pieces together until the icing sets.
